Some of my fondest memories involve reading. I was lucky to have a mother who read to me, and I passed that on to my children. I believe a passion for learning is one of the most valuable gifts we can give our children.
In this photo of my boys, Sean is reading to his brother Matthew. Books that invited exploration or activity were among our favorites and eighteen years later I can still recite many of their favorite rhyming books. Flapjack was inspired by comments Sean and Matt made about our new puppy smelling like pancakes. The book gave me an opportunity to revisit those precious young years when we would read and then cook together. This little book was a family adventure. I wrote and illustrated it and my computer savvy (now grown) children assisted with navigating the self publish e-book arena.
It has been quite a learning curve creating this sweet little book. This adventure catapulted me into the 21st century. I created Flapjack on GIMP and now I am working on a book about his sister Jill who can't sit still, using Photoshop. My niece, Hannah, turned me on to the joys of the bamboo pen and tablet and my illustration process has been much smoother. This new chapter in my life is fun filled . Thank you for being part of the journey!
